Secondary Education

The picture below schematically shows the Dutch secundary education system.

When your child is 12 years old or older and has sufficient command of the Dutch language, your child will move on to secondary education.

There are different levels:

In Practical Education (Praktijkonderwijs), students are trained for a profession.
From VMBO towards VWO, learning will be increasingly theoretical, that is, more and more learning from textbooks.
